One connection is available—not the entire roadmap
OpenAI and ServiceNow expanded their partnership on October 28. Both announcements identify a ServiceNow MCP plugin in OpenAI’s marketplace as available, while placing several deeper integrations on later schedules.
The companies describe a connection through which authorized users can investigate IT issues and update records without leaving ChatGPT. That is different from the model simply writing suggested steps for someone else to carry out.
The business system still governs the action
OpenAI says customers connect their own ServiceNow instance and decide which capabilities to expose. The integration uses ServiceNow’s Action Fabric, which the companies say applies the organization’s business rules and permissions.
ServiceNow describes itself as the place where the resulting actions execute and are governed. A preview scenario involving an engineer reviewing alerts and coordinating a response should not be read as proof that every interactive extension is already available.
For a buyer, the important boundary is the configured action, not the conversational interface. A useful evaluation would check which records can be changed, whose permissions apply and which steps require approval. Model Current has not connected a customer instance or audited that enforcement.
The announced dates are staggered
The companies expect enhanced plugin capabilities by the end of 2026. Voice-based risk-assessment features in ServiceNow’s control tower are expected in the first quarter of 2027.
OpenAI-powered security capabilities are scheduled for early access in January 2027 and general availability in the second quarter. Codex integration with AI Workflow Factory is expected during 2027.
These are announced expectations, not evidence that the later products have shipped. ServiceNow’s release explicitly identifies future capabilities and benefits as forward-looking statements subject to delays and other uncertainties.
Internal adoption is not an outcome study
ServiceNow also plans to give employees access to ChatGPT Work and Codex. A company-wide access plan does not show how many people will use the tools or how their work will change.
The practical next evidence is the released functionality, its actual configuration requirements and results from real deployments. Neither announcement substitutes for a controlled test of reliability, security or productivity.
